Welcome to the NTPAs new look website.  This is a second rebuild and thanks has to be given to our web  author Keala for getting us on line and maintaining our presence on the web.  As new elements of the site come on line in the coming weeks it will be announced, so please keep an eye on the site for updates.

Urgent News and Updates

24/03/10 - NTPA Launch:- The Official Launch for the NTPA took place on the 17th of March 2010.  The lauch was attended by about 100 people from all forces and partner agencies across the UK  A Further update will be published shortly on the News and Launch pages.

The National Trans Police Association was formed in January 2008 when a group of like minded people met at Bramshill NPIA Staff Training College  in North Hampshire at a Positive Action Leadership Programme course, for Trans Police Officers and Police Staff in the UK Police Service.  Subsequently the NTPA was formed and it is hoped that we now exist to represent and provide support to serving and retired Police Officers, Police Staff and Special Constables with any gender identity issue including, but not exclusively, Trans men, Trans women, people who are Transgender, androgyne or intersex and people who cross dress.

If there is anyone currently within the Police Service, or have retired, and have had a gender issue, we can provide support and help.  We can also provide Support and information for relatives and partners of those with gender issues.  We are available to provide further services to anyone, especially Emergency Services who are looking to have a better understanding of Transgender and the issues surround the Transgender Community.  We hope to clarify and demystify some of the myths and misunderstandings that still exist.

We also offer a confidential E-mail address to contact us if your enquiry is of a sensitive nature, This account is only accessible by two people of the executive, and will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The NTPA exists primarily to provide support to serving and retired Police Officers, Police Staff and Special Constables with any gender identity issue including, but not exclusively, Trans Men, Trans Women, people who identity as 'Transgender', Androgyne or Intersex.  Also the NTPA will give support to people who identify as Cross Dressers.  The NTPA further aims to provide support to all serving and retired police officers, police staff and special constables who are dealing with people with a gender identity issue whether that person is a colleague, family member or a member of the public involved in a police matter.

Employment

The NTPA also exists to represent the views of its members on matters of policy concerning Trans Police Officers, Police Staff and Special Constables and to assist in and encourage their recruitment, retention and progression within the UK Police Service.

Community

The NTPA aspires to speak for the wider Trans Community on Police related matters and to help foster better relations between the UK Police Service and the Trans Community as a whole.

NTPA and the coming year 2009/2010

As I write to you all, it has been a time of personal reflection and amazement from our AGM that was recently held at Lancashire's Police HQ in Hutton (near Preston). Our AGM was towards the end of November 2009. It is true I have never been impressed with position only mindful of the responsibility it brings. Therefore it is with some gratitude and respect toward those who have entrusted me with the office of Chair of the NTPA that I have accepted this role.

My hope during my tenure as Chair is to serve the post well, and be mindful of the people who put me in office for I believe any benefits of office truly come in serving others.

Reflecting over the past two years since the NTPA first began life, it is to me amazing that the: heart, determination, vision, passion and staying power given to us by our executive body remains steadfast, for without them none of this would have been possible. I am also very grateful to ACPO, NPIA and ACPOS for their continued support that we have managed to come so far.

From those early NTPA day's one thing became very clear over time that each executive member should not carry the load alone, such pressures can undermine, rather the load should be shared and as my first duty the new expanded executive has been put into teams to ensure continuity of service and to provide executive support to each other.

The last two years has been difficult for the NTPA but it has laid a firm foundation from which to build a healthy future. By not comparing ourselves to the meteoric growth of other similar organisations, our aims are truly focused on being a strong National Police Staff Support Association, which includes Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and slowly and steadily built from the ground up.

The vision for the future for the NTPA is to increase our membership and improve our recognition. I would encourage all members of the NTPA to get more involved in our activities, for it is toward the membership we exist. Our first priority is always to support Transgender police staff, advise forces where necessary and take appropriate action if needs be. We want to Invite smaller support organisations to link in to us and build stronger partnerships and working relationships.

We are ambitious, we are determined and most of all we hope all the membership existing and new will come on board and help us grow the NTPA in the coming months.  There are always opportunities to get involved, simply lodge your interest with our membership secretary and we will take it from there!

We have an exciting challenging year ahead and the more members involved in NTPA activities will help us establish a powerful presence for the future.

Finally just to say a thank you to all those who have already worked so hard to make the NTPA happen it is to these pioneers we all owe a debt of gratitude. In closing we have a tremendous opportunity before us to make a huge positive difference to peoples lives, we will not shrink from this challenge or go quietly, we are here to stay and serve we will

Stephenie Robinson

Chair
